Returning with "NINA" marks a breakthrough: On her second new single, the Hamburger exudes solid Peter Fox vibes.
Typically, artists who sing about the end of a relationship either deliver tearful ballads, often accompanied by melancholic piano and/or thunderstorms, or brutal smash-hit songs that leave no good impression of their ex, leaving you wondering: Why were they together in the first place? Nina Chuba actually finds a different approach. "It didn't fit," she shrugs, because: That's just how it goes sometimes. Instead of focusing on her now past partner, she prefers to dismantle and take possession of the once-shared apartment, delighting in the 80 square meters of newly gained freedom.
Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of it all: it doesn't seem like someone is trying to compensate for their pain over a broken love by either defiantly belting out "I Will Survive" or awkwardly seeking the good in the situation. Nope, I wholeheartedly buy into Nina Chuba's uplifting feeling of breaking free and setting sail for new horizons after a breakthrough.
The colorful video surely contributes to this, showing her tackling her stuffy den with a chainsaw, but even more so does the sound: Flo August, with whom the singer has collaborated frequently, is responsible for the production: not overloaded, yet the basses pack a punch and once again provide Nina Chuba with solid Peter Fox vibes. This is something that can definitely continue a bit longer.
